I'm sad it took so long to get Siri on the Mac. ![]() Siri on the Mac, like Siri on Apple TV, brings much of the same functionality we know and love from iOS, but reimagines it for a different type of device. Siri isn't the same as Dictation, but you can ask Siri to compose short messages, such as email and text messages. In macOS Sierra, you can ask Siri to “turn on Dictation” for you. First, set up Dictation on your Mac and then set up OS X’s Dictation Keyword Phrase. Operate your Mac with your tongue as you have done with your iPhone/iPad with the help of Siri. Tap Voices, pick a language, and you’ll see a whole range of options. Press it, and your device will read the entire selection to you. Make sure Speak Selection is switched on. ![]() Open the Settings app and select General > Accessibility > Speech. They’re unique to this feature and need to be downloaded to the device, but it’s free and easy to set up so you might as well pick your favorite! Though text can be read out with Siri’s voice, Speak Selection actually has several other voices to choose from that you may not be used to on iOS. But if you’re going to be listening to a machine reading a lot of text, you’ll want to make sure it’s a voice you’re comfortable with! The Speak Selection function is super useful for iPhone and iPad users with visual impairments, and it’s handy in other situations too. ![]()
